Schools can help parents make childcare savings

Posted on 27 January 2016

If your child’s school chooses to accept Childcare Vouchers they can help working parents enjoy big savings on their childcare costs, reducing their bill by up to a third.

The can be used to pay for out of school clubs

These valuable savings are not just restricted to parents of preschool children (under five years old).  Tax exempt Childcare Vouchers can be used to pay for out of school clubs for children up to the 1st September following their 15th birthday or 1st September following their 16th birthday if they are registered disabled.

This could include (but is not limited to):

  • Breakfast clubs
  • After school activities
  • Holiday clubs
  • Sports clubs

How can schools check that they are eligible to start accepting Childcare Vouchers?

HMRC guidance states that the care provided by the governing body of a school is approved if it takes place:

- outside normal school hours (this means the normal hours of compulsory education adopted by the school as appropriate for the age of the child)

- on school premises or on premises that are covered by the inspection of the whole school activity by Ofsted or the equivalent inspection body for certain independent school

Clubs that are not part of schools can accept the vouchers if they are on the Ofsted register.  Those that do not have compulsory Ofsted registration can join the voluntary part of the register.

There is no cost for accepting the vouchers as payment

There is no cost to schools for accepting Edenred Childcare Vouchers as payment and the process is seamless and hassle free! It works just like internet banking.

What are the benefits of accepting the vouchers as payment?

Accepting Childcare Vouchers allows schools to help make parents' childcare costs more affordable which could help attract more working parents to the clubs.

The process is simple and provides secure, reliable payment.

How do schools go about accepting the vouchers?

Anyone can affiliate easily online at www.childcarevouchers.co.uk/childcareproviders - selecting ‘ACCEPT VOUCHERS’.

They’ll need a copy of their Ofsted registration or documentation containing the school’s registration number, such as an inspection report.

Within five working days of affiliating they will be issued with an Edenred account number starting with ‘P’ and a personal online voucher account to keep track of payment requests made by parents.

How will payment be received by the school?

1. Parents make a payment request via their personal online Childcare Vouchers account.

2. Payment is automatically credited to the school’s online Childcare Vouchers account.

3. Edenred then issues a payment the next working day.

4. Schools will then receive payment through BACS or posted cheque.

Schools can choose the method of payments – either by BACs or by cheque and Edenred will email a remittance advice each time we make a payment.  They can view a personalised parent payment page to record payment references for accounts reconciliations.
