Are your kids eating healthy without you?

Posted on 28 September 2016

Getting children enjoying healthy food from an early age is the way to help them eat well for the rest of their lives. But how can you tell if your child is getting a healthy meal when you’re not there?

Well the good news is that school meals have changed a lot since Turkey Twizzlers and vending machines full of sugar – school meals in 2016 are tastier, healthier  and even beat packed lunches in terms of quality thanks to government standards. You can even read the National guidelines, laid out here by the Children's Food Trust, which set out how school meals should meet children’s nutritional needs.

But how do you really know if your child’s school, nursery of childcare provider is delivering meals that measure up and following these guidelines? Look out for the Children's Food Trust Award. It’s simple to join and organisations that have joined the award scheme show off their commitment to helping children eat well. You can even recommend your school or childcare provider about the Children’s Food Trust Award.
